Emergency Management Information

bout the Division

The Emergency Management Division exists in accordance with Florida Statutes and serves as the local emergency management agency for Bradford County. Florida law allows for the Board of County Commissioners to delegate Emergency Management responsibilities to a county constitutional officer. In Bradford County, the Sheriff has been tasked with fulfilling these obligations, thus giving way to the Emergency Management Division.

As prescribed by law, the Emergency Management Division is tasked with several responsibilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining the County’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP).
  • Conducting reviews of emergency management plans for external entities.
  • Establishing and coordinating the Emergency Operations Center to provide continuity of government and direction and control of emergency operations
  • Coordinating with emergency management officials on local, state, and federal levels.

The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Division is an all-hazards emergency management agency. Following the motto, “One Team, One Mission”, we stand ready with our partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from any disaster that impacts Bradford County.

About the Director

Per Florida State Statutes, each county emergency management agency is required to have a director, who must be appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Effective August 27th, 2020, Lieutenant Bradley G. Witt was appointed as Emergency Management Director by the Bradford County Board of County Commissioners. Director Witt began his service to the citizens of Bradford County in October 2012 when he was hired as a Patrol Officer with the Starke Police Department. In December 2014, Director Witt came to the Sheriff’s Office. Over the next several years, he worked in the Patrol Division as a Deputy Sheriff before being promoted to Sergeant in 2016. Following this promotion, Director Witt worked as a Shift Supervisor before transferring to the Criminal Investigation Unit as a Detective Sergeant, where he served from April 2017 through August 2020. Following his transfer to the Emergency Management Division and appointment as Director, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Director Witt has undergone hundreds of hours of advanced training relating to emergency management, criminal investigations, background investigations, and patrol operations. Director Witt is also a Certified Examiner for the Computerized Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA). He was named the 2018 Detective of the Year and has been recognized for his role in the development of the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office Guardian Program, a comprehensive school safety initiative. Director Witt resides in Bradford County with his wife and son.
