Investigations

The Criminal Investigations Unit’s (CIU) responsibilities include investigating various types of crimes such as sexual assault, child abuse, homicides, armed robbery, burglary and other types of crimes. Detectives are assigned cases using a system based on solvability factors. Investigators from specialized units are assigned to investigate crimes on the basis of expertise. CIU works closely with other outside agencies such as the Medical Examiner’s Office, Department of Children and Families, Child Protection Team, the FBI, DEA and Victim Advocates. Members of the Unit work together in order to achieve a common goal. We often rely on help from citizens in solving crime. By working together with the community, we can make a positive difference and create a safer environment for all of us to live in.
