Hurricane Prep

The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June 1st – November 30th each year. Remember, this is only the time that conditions are best for a hurricane. In Florida, tropical cyclones can be seen year round, although out-of-season storms are rare.

It is important to keep a Disaster Supply Kit ready at all time. A good kit should include the following:

Non-perishable food products, such as:

  • whole dry milk
  • canned fruit juices
  • canned meats and fish
  • meat substitutes and beans
  • bread and crackers
  • peanut butter
  • dried fruits
  • dry cereals
  • granola bars / cookies

Supplies and Equipment:

  • battery operated radio with extra batteries
  • flashlight with extra batteries
  • blankets and / or sleeping bags
  • paper plates and utensils
  • bottle opener and can opener
  • candles and matches (in a waterproof container)
  • oil or kerosene lanterns
  • toilet articles and sanitary needs

Prescription medications for everyone in your home

First aid supplies

Plan to evacuate, making sure you know where you are going and what route you are taking. If you are told to evacuate, do so.
