Animal Control

The Animal Control Division consists of two Animal Control Enforcement Officers who provide regular service Monday through Friday during normal business hours.   Officers are also on call for special emergency call-outs seven days per week.

The function of Animal Control is to protect the public from stray, nuisance, and rabid animals.  The division also investigates dangerous dog complaints.  Animal Control responds to other requests for animal control services dependent upon the nature of the complaint and the type of animal involved.

Adoption Information & Requirements

Fees for adoption are:

  • For a pet that has already been spayed or neutered, it is $20.00 for a dog and $15.00 for a cat.
  • For a pet that has not been spayed or neutered the fee is $40.00 for a dog and $25.00 for a cat.

Since the Animal Control Department does not actually spay or neuter, once you have adopted a non-sterilized pet and taken them to a licensed veterinarian you will be entitled to a $20.00 refund on dogs and $10.00 refund on cats. The veterinarian must sign the appropriate form and the procedure MUST be done within 30 days of the adoption to be eligible for the partial refund.

Rescue Groups

There are many individuals and/or groups who are permitted to adopt pets from the shelter and offer them for adoption elsewhere. The pets that these individuals/groups adopt from the shelter are not for sale and cannot be used for any other purpose other than adoption.

In order for these groups to adopt they must have a copy of their 501C3, a letter of reference from the rescuer’s veterinarian stating that the rescue group does sterilize all pets before offering them for adoption and their contact information on file with the shelter.
