Del-Griffis(2)

Deputy Del Griffis was employed with the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office in November, 1990. On May 13, 1992 he was involved in an automobile accident while on patrol.  Sadly, Del succumbed to the injuries he sustained. He was 32 years old.  Deputy Griffis had previously worked for both the Cedar Key Police Department and the Lawtey Police Department and joined the Sheriff’s Office, working in Corrections before becoming a full time deputy.  He truly loved being in law enforcement.  He is survived by one child, a six year old daughter, one brother, one sister, and his parents.

The following is a tribute to Bradford County Deputy Hesley Delmar “Del” Griffis:

In Honor of a Lawman Whose Youthful Dream Came True

How tall he stood, this young man, When the star was pinned on his chest. With solemn oath he made his promise, “I’ll give my very best”. To reach his goal in life, Himself to the task he gave, Possessor of unique qualities He was loyal, dependable and brave.

“I’ll be glad to do it Sheriff” He would always smile and say, When duty called or need arose, No matter night or day. And from the line of duty came God’s unexpected call; And though heaven has been made richer, There’s sadness in us all.

At loss for words, but with resolve, In one accord we stand, To honor you our fallen friend, tn salute we raise our hand. And though words cannot express The way we really feel, We know that earth holds no sorrow That heaven cannot heal.
